Product Overview

Soapstone powder (Steatite) is derived from talc in its massive, compact form. While sharing the formula Mg₃Si₄O₁₀(OH)₂ with talc, soapstone's dense structure gives it unique properties for ceramics, electrical insulation, and refractory applications. Steatite ceramics — manufactured by firing compacted soapstone powder — produce dense, mechanically strong bodies with exceptional electrical insulation properties. In refractory applications, soapstone is used in kiln furniture and crucibles. In paper, it serves as a filler and pitch control agent. We supply soapstone in 200–500 mesh grades with specifications tailored to each application.

Industrial Applications

Ceramics & Electrical Insulators

Primary material for steatite ceramics with exceptional electrical insulation.

Refractory Applications

Kiln furniture, crucibles, and refractory bricks. Withstands 1000°C+.

Paper Industry

Filler and pitch control agent. Hydrophobic nature controls pitch deposits.

Paints & Coatings

Improves film integrity, moisture resistance in protective coatings.

Rubber & Plastics

Mould-release agent. Filler for compounds requiring thermal stability.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between soapstone and talc?

Both share the same formula but soapstone is the massive, compact form. Its denser structure makes it ideal for ceramics and electrical insulation.

Is soapstone heat resistant?

Yes. Soapstone withstands temperatures above 1000°C, ideal for refractory applications.

Can soapstone be used for electrical insulation?

Yes. Steatite ceramics from soapstone are widely used for electrical insulators.
