Mineral Powders for the Plastics & Polymers Industry

Cost-reducing functional filler

Industry Overview

The plastics and polymer processing industry uses mineral fillers to reduce resin costs, improve mechanical properties, and enhance processing characteristics. At Ridhi Sidhi Microns, we manufacture precision-graded mineral powders for PP, PE, and PVC systems. Talc powder is the premier filler for polypropylene (PP) compounds, especially in the automotive sector. At loading levels of 10–40%, talc significantly increases flexural modulus, heat deflection temperature, and dimensional stability. Automotive manufacturers specify talc-filled PP for dashboard components and door panels. Calcite powder is the dominant filler in PVC compounds. In rigid PVC pipes, calcite reduces cost while maintaining impact strength. Our GCC grades with D50 of 2–5 µm provide superior impact retention at high loading levels. Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC) is extensively used in masterbatch manufacturing. Our GCC grades with controlled particle size and high brightness are optimized for PE and PP masterbatch production, ensuring excellent dispersion.

Performance Benefits

Cost Reduction in PVC

Calcite and GCC reduce PVC compound cost by displacing expensive resin while maintaining impact strength.

Stiffness Enhancement (Talc/PP)

Talc increases PP flexural modulus by 50–150%, enabling thinner, lighter parts.

Heat Resistance Improvement

Talc raises the heat deflection temperature (HDT) of PP by 15–30°C.

Faster Cycle Times

Talc acts as a nucleating agent in PP, promoting faster crystallization and shorter injection moulding cycle times.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which mineral filler is best for polypropylene (PP)?

Talc is the preferred filler for PP compounds. It significantly improves stiffness, heat resistance, and dimensional stability.

Do you supply GCC for masterbatch production?

Yes. Our RM-GCC-5 and RM-GCC-10 grades are specifically optimized for calcium carbonate masterbatch production.

Can mineral fillers improve PVC pipe impact strength?

Yes, when using ultrafine GCC (D50: 2–5 µm). Fine particle size GCC can maintain or improve impact strength at moderate loading levels.
